Where did the summer go?

Did it really ever arrive in Chicago this year?  Not that I’m complaining, but it’s hard to believe that it’s really August 26th, when we never got the typical summer heat.

And then, I’ve been traveling so much for weddings and retreat and I’m not even sure what else, that even if the temperature had been soaring like normal, I’m not sure I would have noticed.

This past weekend was terrific.  I was lucky enought to be invited to “Up North” Minnesota for the wedding of two dear, really dear friends.  The kind of people who make it easy to be friends with them.  It was everything a wedding should be.  It was about them getting married and sharing that day with people that meant a lot to them.  It wasn’t about gorgeous flowers (though their good friends made that happen without the need for a florist) or fancy food (though there was excellent catering).  It was about celebrating two people who make each other better getting to spend the rest of their lives together.  And you know, the more that I think about it, not only do they make each other better, they make everyone they know, including me, a little better too.  Too many details are boring, but the wedding started with a pontoon boat ride across the lake from the hotel to my friends parents house and ended with all of us in a circle around the firepit, drinks in hand.  I don’t think that it gets much better than that.
